

Bob graduated from Navasota High School in 1966. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Sigma Chi and earned a bachelor’s in business administration (May 1970) with honors and a master’s in professional accounting (June 1972). He was a certified public accountant. Through the bulk of his career Bob was a tax advisor in public accounting. He principally started with Arthur Anderson then left to form his own practice – Bossin, Bonno & Whitten. He then worked at Tyler, Ellis, and Tuffly. Bob departed for a stint in the oil industry, later returning to Tyler, Ellis, and Tuffly which eventually merged into Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). He made tax partner at Coopers & Lybrand in 1989 and retired in 2008. Most recently he was a principal with Matthew Aycock CPA.
Bob loved his family and was a great support to them all. He was an active church member at Grace Presbyterian where he served as an elder and trustee. When his children were young, Bob read the Bible and other stories to each of his children most nights. As his children grew up, he made every effort to attend each dance recital, sporting event and concert. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially skiing with his family, hunting and fishing with his boys, and trying to improve his golf game. Bob was very involved in the community and served on many boards including¬ – Theater Under the Stars; the Gulf Coast Chapter of JDRF; Texas Presbyterian Foundation; Grace Church School Board; the Harris Center for Mental Health for IDD; and Mexico Medical Mission. His social clubs include – the Breakfast Association; Los Cazadores; and Greater Houston Gun Club.
He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 39 years, Myra Arendale Whitten. Also surviving are his children – Sara Whitten; Trey Whitten and wife Catherine Johnson Whitten; and Will Whitten – his grandchildren – Leslie Campana; Robbie and Emilie Whitten – Bob’s three siblings – Dorothy Whitten Chapman; Kent Whitten; and Clark Whitten – and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was a man of faith who worked hard at everything he did. He treasured and deeply loved his family. He was a steadfast leader in his church, community and profession. Bob was a good friend to many, and mentored countless in their careers. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Bob during a reception to be held from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 28th of November, in the parlor and pavilion of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 29th of November, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane in Houston, where Rev. Dr. Trey H. Little, Senior Pastor, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at the church.
