Robert traveled often due to his work which was an aspect of his occupation which he particularly enjoyed. He was a very gifted, patient and creative mind who had a gift for detailed art of any nature, whether it was assembling model building kits, drawing or creating to scale models. He once observed his younger sisters playing with their new Etch-a-Sketch toy. After they tired of it and put it down, Robert quickly picked it up and spent hours recreating the image of their home on the Etch-a-Sketch, down to the tiniest details such as the locks on the doors and the plants seen through the atrium windows. As part of a school assignment, he created such an impressive and elaborate miniature playground that the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) chose to display it in their entryway.
He loved music and often surprised people with his talents on the dance floor. Robert was young at heart and made friends everywhere he went. He was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Playing pool and camping were two activities he enjoyed. Robert was a true believer in God and often shared the gospel with his loved ones.
He is survived by his mother, Faviola Vanessa Carrillo of Houston, TX, his father, Roberto Mendez, Sr. of El Paso, TX, his grandmother, Sara Lupe Alvarado of Houston, TX, his sister and brother-in-law, Yrasema (Sema) and Ken Gregorski of Fulshear, TX, his brother, Marc Carrillo of Maricopa, AZ, his brother, Gustavo Mendez of Katy, TX, his sister and brother-in-law, Araceli and Raul Medina of Houston, TX, his sister, Jessica Carrillo of Houston, TX and his sister and brother-in-law, Valerie Carrillo-Dugas and Lonnie Dugas of Mandeville, LA, and many other loved ones.

Robert did not believe in what he felt was the “pomp and circumstance” of funerals. Therefore, he is being cremated and there will be no funeral services.
