

Roberto Vasquez, Sr.
August 20, 1928 – January 22, 2020
Roberto “Beto” Vasquez, 71, passed on Wednesday, January 22nd in his final home in Houston, TX after a battle against dementia.
A memorial service will be held at Funeraria Del Angel on Monday, January 27th at 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at Funeraria del Angel at 10:00a.m., followed by burial at Hollywood Cemetery at 12:30p.m.
Beto Vasquez was born on August 20, 1948 in the valley of Sebastian, Texas to Daria and Nicolas Vasquez. He married Jesusita Vasquez on November 2, 1966 and raised 7 children.
Beto moved to California at the age of 12 to attend school and work in the fields, picking seasonal fruits and vegetables. In 1964, he moved to Houston where he later contributed to the influence of cumbia tropical, which is now known as musica grupera in the Houston music industry, starting a band famously known as El Costa Azul. In 1976, he left the music business to raise his family and work in construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing his guitar. His family paid this tribute to him, “Dad is the reason music runs in our blood. He was a loving and humorous man with an abundance of friends. Mom and Dad opened their hearts and home to many family and friends over the years, and we are at peace that they are now finally together.” Regardless of the battle he fought, Beto remained a loving man whose personality always managed to shine through.
Beto Vasquez was preceded in death by his wife, Jesusita Vasquez. He is survived by his 4 daughters, Alicia & Antonio Reyes, Jolanda & Israel Catano, Amanda & Mark Monita, and Jessica Vasquez & Hugo Ramirez; his 3 sons, Roberto, Jr. & Mirna Carolina Vasquez, Berto & Nikki Vasquez, and Sergio Vasquez; his sister, Eva Martinez; his brothers, Alfonso, Salvador, and Lucio Vasquez; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
