It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Roger Frank Mechura, 85, on September 2, 2021after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend, Susan Wolf Mechura, and his parents, Frank and Emma Mechura of La Grange, Texas.
He is survived by his son, John Mechura and his wife Cindi of Katy, Texas and his daughter, Melanie and her husband Robert Clauson of Manvel, Texas; his brother Gene Mechura and his wife Ruth, his much-adored grandchildren Madeleine, Alexandra and Charles; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many good friends.
Roger was born August 6, 1936, on his parent’s farm near Plum, Texas in Fayette County. He graduated from Yoakum High School and Lamar University earning a B.B.A. degree. Roger spent his entire working career in the oil and gas industry retiring in 2001 as an Assistant Treasurer with the Coastal Oil & Gas Corporation. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1965.
Roger met the love of his life, Susan, in early 1962 while both were employed at Gulf Oil. They married the following year on July 27, 1963.
Roger will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a quiet and kind gentleman holding the highest integrity in business and in family life. Roger loved traveling, polka, watching the Houston Astros, researching family history, and spending time with family. He was active with the Knights of Columbus (Council 7036) and the Czech Heritage Society of Texas.
Roger deeply loved his family and cherished his friends both old and new but above all was passionate and proud of his grandchildren.
The Mechura family would like to sincerely thank the caregivers for taking care of our father including Tina Henson and staff with Katy Hospice and Melissa Rutherford and staff at Tuscany Living Villas.
