

He was born in San Salvador, El Salvador on April 4th,1935 to Romeo Fortin and Maria Angelica Magaña.
Later on he would meet and marry his wife of 66 years, Aida Elena Mendoza.
Romeo had a career in Pediatric Medicine. After graduating from Medical School at the University of El Salvador, he would go on to complete his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,Texas and become a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He had a passion for traveling, reading, writing, culinary arts and adored spending time with his 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He traveled with his wife to many countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China, Egypt, Israel, the Caribbean, North America, Central America and South America. He was also passionate about his medical career, receiving post graduate fellowships in Genetics from the World Health Organization in Copenhagen, Denmark and in Metabolism from Stanford University in Stanford, California.
He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Aida Elena Maria, grandchild Rafael Romeo Fortin, his brothers Jose (Pepe), Miguel and Rene, and his parents Romeo and Maria Angelica.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Aida Elena, his sister Marigel Fortin de Rivera, his children Victoria Basagoitia, Carolina Garcia, Eleonora McDonald and Rafael Fortin. His grandchildren Diego Basagoitia, Gabriel Adrian Basagoitia, Sara Fortin-Miller, Daniel Fortin, Carina Garcia, Carla Garcia, Carlos Garcia, Erica Miller, Evan McDonald, Ethan McDonald and Elena McDonald. His great-grandchildren Julian Basagoitia, Emilia Basagoitia, Viviana Basagoitia, Everett McDonald, Janie McDonald, Theo Miller and Cecilia Miller.
