

Rondal Eugene (“Gene”) McElyea, 81, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living in Houston, Texas. He was born to Rondal Dell and Doris McElyea. He was a graduate of Galena Park High School Class of 1961, completed studies at The Massey Business College, and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army serving as a Veterinary Spec and as Military Police. After departing from active duty in the Army, he worked for the government at Fort Drum in New York for many years before moving back to Texas in 2002.
Gene enjoyed watching the NASCAR races on television, making clocks that he gave away to friends, putting together model cars and 1000-piece puzzles, and playing the Wii bowling game with other residents where he lived.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Rondal Dell and Doris McElyea.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Russell Sprouse; his two grandsons, River Sprouse and Stryker Sprouse; his sister, Marsha Page and her husband, Larry; his nephew, Brian Page; his niece Shelley Page Axum and her husband, Bruce; his great-nephew, Collin Page; and his great-niece, Mabry Page; and numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
