Rosa will be forever remembered by her children, Racheal Simien, Kenneth Ray Benoit, Chauncey Benoit, Michael Benoit, Patricia Smith and Maria Benoit and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Theresa Jurand and Barbara Ann Brack and her brothers, Chris Malveaux and Leroy Malveaux; as well as, her husband, Demas Benoit, Sr., and her children, Demas Benoit, Jr., Jo Ann Babineaux, and Douglas Andre Benoit.
Rosa was born on September 28, 1938, in Lafayette Parish in Louisiana to the late Wilfred and Mary Malveaux. At the age of 10, the family moved to Houston, Texas, one of the many Creole families during the Great Migration to Frenchtown. Rosa attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School and Church. At the age of 16, she was married to Demas Benoit, Sr. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. She bore 8 children and raised 9; she impressed the importance of education upon them all. So much so that she later went to Lee College to earn her high school degree and an Associate’s degree. She worked for the US Postal Service in Houston, Texas until retirement.
After retirement, you could usually find her at home feeding and taking care of her grandchildren, gambling in Louisiana, at church, or helping others who needed it. After her husband passed away in 1990, she moved from Trinity Gardens to Channelview, Texas. Upon moving to Channelview, she continued to support others, including her sister, Barbara Ann Brack, and her daughters, Jo Ann Babineaux and Maria Benoit, along with a host of grandchildren. After being diagnosed with dementia around 2017, she went to live with Racheal and Paul Simien where they took care of her along with the help of medical professionals like Denise Medina and at Memorial Hermann Hospital - Woodlands, under the care of Dr. Kumashi in her final days. Shortly before her passing, she was visited by Father Armstrong for her Last Rites. She was a fighter all the way to the end and will surely be missed.
