Rosolyn Ann Tanner transitioned to her heavenly reward on Saturday, August 17, 2024, following an extended illness. Rosolyn was born January 18, 1939, in San Antonio and was the eldest child of the late Frank Henry and Helen Sewell Tanner. She attended Cuney Elementary, Fredrick Douglas Junior High School, and was a 1956 graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of New Light Baptist Church.
Following her high school graduation, she enrolled in St. Phillips College, receiving an associate degree in 1958, and also became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She then relocated to Houston where she studied at Texas Southern University. Rosolyn’s professional career included over 32 years as a paraprofessional in the Fort Bend Independent School District, which included a long tenure at Progressive High School, where she began and ran several different programs. Following her retirement, Rosolyn returned to Progressive High School as a volunteer where she continued nurturing her beloved students. The words to Rosolyn’s favorite Christian song, If I Can Help Somebody, then my living will not be in vain, exemplifies the life she lived. Ann touched many lives and people who needed her friendly smile, a caring and concerning demeanor, and words of encouragement. Rosolyn always had an engaging and happy personality.
In addition to both her parents, Rosolyn was predeceased by her son, Chris S. Tanner; her oldest brother, Frank Henry Tanner, Jr. (Doris) of Richmond CA; and her beloved friend and loved one, Doretha M. Mitchell. She is survived by her granddaughter, Brittany A. Tanner and great-grandson, Brayden C. Tanner. Her brother, Roderick Don Tanner (Debra), Converse TX; sisters, Kay Frances Helen Tanner Brown (Charles), O’Fallon IL; Carolyn Jean Tanner Cohen, Garden Ridge, TX; and daughter-in-law Bridgette L. Starr. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, too numerous to count around the world.
Also of particular note, our entire family is grateful to both Linda Esch and Cathy Bishop, Ann’s devoted and faithful friends until she drew her last breath upon earth.
