I first met Reuben in 1976 when I reported to Miami from NY. Still recall how well dressed he was even in the heat and humidity of So FL. He was the back-up supervisor in one of the groups there and all the agents in that group admired and respected him. He treated everyone with respect. After I got to know Reuben better, I understood why. An outstanding agent and an even more outstanding person.

Bob and I were so sorry to hear about Ruben. He was a special man. We knew him to be a great family man, husband and father and a strong man of God. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I was looking things up on my dad when I came across Ruben's name. We (my sisters and I) remember Ruben fondly, we all had childhood crushes on him in the early '70s, we were just kids.  But Dad had him over for dinner often and always talked about him long after he retired from the DEA.  Dad passed away in 1998 at age 62.  My sincerest sympathy to the family of Ruben. You will all be together again someday. Maybe Dad and Ruben are up there laughing and talking about the good ole days...Nanette Plase

Sorry to learn of Ruben’s passing.  Rest In Peace, Ruben. 

I had the pleasure and honor to work with Ruben when he was over the Houston Office of DEA. He was an outstanding public servant and was respected by everyone that had the opportunity to know him. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends. 

On behalf of my late father, Louis Richenberger, and my family, we would like express our deepest condolences to the Monzon family.  

Ruben and my father, Louis  worked together at DEA and I remember my father sharing great memories of him.   

It was very much appreciated when Ruben attended my fathers funeral almost a year ago last September.  

Rest In Peace Ruben, your family is in our prayers.

During our time in Houston with Ruben and you it was over 4 years of really good times.  I learned so much from Ruben as a person and working for and with him in the Houston DEA office. I had the good fortune of meeting Ruben in the mid 70s when I traveled as a new agent to Miami from Boston working on what I thought were “big cases”,  when in reality they were in the Miami world at the time  tiny cases. I’ll will always remember how well Ruben treated me  ensuring I had help and anything else I needed. He made sure I wasn’t treated like an intruder, but made me feel like what I was doing was worth getting support each and every time. 
Although we never worked together I continued to stay in touch with Ruben through the years. Often when he was in Hqs and then when he went back to the field and I went to Hqs. 
Like so many who have described Ruben in their tributes I truly believe Ruben was the gentleman of gentlemen. He was the model of what a DEA agent should be regardless of the position he held in the agency. He was also the model of what a wonderful human being should be.

Ruben was my SAC when I was a GS in New Orleans during the late 1980’s.  He was a gentleman in every sense of the word — always impeccably dressed, calm, steady, self-confident and kind.  He was soft-spoken yet exuded an unmistakable command presence.  His leadership was such that he inspired all who worked for him to do their very best.  Toni and family have my deepest sympathy.

Ruben was a colleague and friend.  An exemplary agent.  I have fond memories of working with him in Charlie Walker's group in Miami, and at Headquarters.  A gentleman and true professional.  Linda and I send our condolences, love and prayers to Ruben's family.

I had the pleasure of working for Ruben when he was the SAC in Houston. He was a true gentleman and outstanding manager. When he became US Marshal I had the pleasure of building a friendship. Rest In Peace my friend. 

I always considered Ruben a good friend and an able colleague. He was affable and bright and epitomized the best attributes of a DEA agent in every way. I am fortunate to have shared a few moments of his life that was too short. My condolences to Toni and the family. May he rest in peace.

It was so sad to learn that Ruben has passed away. We worked together our whole careers in so many ways. He was an agents agent, a leader, and a true gentleman  in every respect. Barbara and I send our love to Toni and their family at this difficult time. Ruben will be truly missed. 

When I think about Ruben, the word that keeps popping up is “gentleman”. Ruben was an impeccable dresser, honorable, and a true gentleman. He was a terrific DEA Agent and an admired SAC.
A lot of my dealings with Ruben was post DEA when he was the US Marshall. He was the same Ruben Monzon that I had known and worked with at DEA. May he Rest In Peace. I will miss him. 

My wife and I had the very distinct privilege of working for Ruben for several years.  He was a man of exceptional integrity and character.  Toni, our deepest sympathies to you and your family. 


I first met Ruben in 1970 in the San Antonio BNDD office.  He had been hired a few months before me and was being transferred to Miami.  He had already established a great reputation with the older agents. 

Many years later, when he was SAC in New Orleans,  he selected me to be the RAC in Shreveport - I could never thank him enough for remembering me.

I always enjoyed seeing him at AFNA or a Houston get together.

He was one of the good guys and will not be forgotten.

I met Ruben after DEA in the local AFNA meetings. I never had the privilege of working with him or for him.  He was truly a gentleman who was very vibrant and caring man who I called a friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

I first met Ruben during my tour in Mexico in 1978. He was in Acapulco for a meeting and we literally met in the hotel swimming pool! We stayed in touch over the years, as our DEA careers led us to different locations. 

Ruben was always a friend, a gentlemen and a confidant. I will miss his friendship and sense of humor. Vaya con Dios Ruben! 

My family and Ruben’s family grew up together in San Antonio. We were neighbors. We use to call him Benny. I was told by his sister, Elsa that he went home to heaven. My heart is broken.

I first met Ruben in 1970, when he was in San Antonio and I was in Houston and reconnected later on in Miami. We continued working together in Houston for two tours. First and foremost, he was truly a good friend. He was always very professional and I enjoyed working for him and enjoyed his friendship throughout our careers with DEA. My condolences to the family.

I worked with Ruben when he was DEA SAC in Houston and when he became US Marshal. He was both a colleague and most of all a friend. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.

I worked for Ruben on two separate assignments during my DEA career. I found him to be an outstanding manager and a good man. I will miss his council and advice. But most of all, I will miss his smile and friendship.

I met Mr. Monzon in New Orleans when he was the SAC and I was a Sergeant with the Louisiana State Police. He was one of the finest people I have ever known. I am deeply sadden by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
