Rufino was born on September 20, 1956, in Donna, TX, and he made his way to Houston in 1978. Working as a carpenter from a young age, Rufino loved, and took great pride in, his work, but he was most proud of his family. Rufino enjoyed working with his hands and building things, and he had a passion for music.
Rufino was preceded in death by his father, Rufino Gaytán Sr.; his brothers Rubén Gaytán and Martín Gaytán; his daughter Erika Gaytán; and many beloved relatives.
Rufino is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Otila Bulos de Gaytán; his children Svetlanna Gaytán-Medina (Mario), Rufino Gaytán III (Melissa), Erik Gaytán (Cintia); Rubisela Gaytán de Serafín; his grandchildren Meagan, Haley, Seth, Dominic, Elena, Liliana, Antonio, Derek, Alondra, Aidaliz, Ayriz, Kevin, and Roman; his siblings Darío, Julia, Juan, Miguel, Norma, Felícita, and Alicia; his mother Concepción Hernandez; and many beloved relatives.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Brookside Funeral Home. A mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, followed by the entombment at 3:30 p.m. at Brookside Memorial Park.
