

Samuel Alton Irving, 81, of Friendswood, TX entered into eternal life on December 6, 2013. Sam was born on February 1, 1932 in Crowley, LA and moved to Houston, TX shortly thereafter, where he remained a resident until his death. He was a 1950 graduate of Milby High School and proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean War years. In his professional life, Sam enjoyed a successful, 40 year career in the home building industry, working for several wholesale supply companies during that span. As one of the principal owners and founders of Gulf Coast Roofers & Builders Supply, Sam “sold out” and settled into retirement life in 1993. He was a devoted family man, avid sports fan, and devout Christian, as he was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Friendswood, TX.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Irving, of 56 years; daughter Cindy Stein and son-in-law Larry Stein; son Glen Irving; grandchildren Matthew Stein, Connor Stein, Lauren Irving, Grant Irving; brothers Don Irving, Larry Irving; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by a son, John Jeffrey Irving; mother Angele Treme and father Oren Irving.
Visitation with the family will be held Thursday December 12 from 5:00-7:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday December 13 at 12:30pm also at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery with interment following.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and/or the American Cancer Society.
