Sandra Odelia Perry was born March 8, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Dorothy Mae Fuller and Moses Robert Perry Jr. She was the eldest of six children and revered as the matriarch of her family.
Sandra began her education in the Houston Independent School District at Dodson and Douglas Elementary Schools; Ryan Middle School, and later attending Jack Yates Senior High School, participating as a majorette and then graduating in 1964.
Sandra started in the workforce at an early age and was never a stranger to hard work; which included raising her three children Felecia, Kent and Yophet. Balancing motherhood and professional growth, Sandra worked at several Houston area nursing homes and St. Luke’s Hospital, while taking classes for nursing. During her younger adult years, Sandra also worked at both Texas Southern University and University of Houston as a receptionist.
After moving to Pasadena, Texas, Sandra decided to make a career change and was accepted to the police academy and worked for Houston Police Department. Throughout her 27 years on the police force, Sandra served on the Gang Task Force, worked to strengthen the police relations with the homeless population, and continued in the Special Operations Division through her retirement.
At an early age, Sandra dedicated her life to Christ and committed to using her time and talents to serve in ministry and throughout the Houston area. Sandra was always willing to share her gift of service within the church community and was a faithful member of Just Church Ministries since 2014 under the leadership of Pastor Roland Booker.
In her later years, Sandra met David Brooks, and the two married in October 2014. From this union, Sandra lovingly welcomed the entire Brooks family, and they held a special place in her heart. Throughout their marriage, Sandra and David enjoyed riding to Galveston, hosting family events, and spending time with one another. As Sandra’s health had its highs and lows, David was there to assist her in all ways possible. He was loving, patient, and giving to all of her needs until her final farewell.
