

Sara Valdes Gilbert passed away on December 25, 2018 at her home in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on April 17, 1918, in El Paso, Texas, Sara lived in Chihuahua, Mexico City, Bay City, Texas, Alexandria Bay, New York, Gunnison, Colorado, Houston, Texas, and Sugar Land, Texas. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Gilbert Lauve and her husband Linden Albert Lauve of Richmond, and Diana Gilbert Neely and her husband William Kyle Neely of Richmond. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Daniel Lauve and his wife Brandi of Austin, Alicia Adams and her husband Bruce of Richmond, Cristina Mejia and her husband Daniel of Houston, Eric Neely of College Station, and Cecilia Neely of San Marcos, as well as her seven great grandchildren, Everett Lauve, Harrison Lauve, Madeline Adams, Brandon Mejia, Audrey Lauve, Sabrina Adams, and Justin Mejia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold Lloyd Gilbert, her sisters, Carmen, Concepcion, and Alicia, and her brother Evaristo.
Sara enjoyed traveling to Mexico, where she frequently visited friends and family in Mexico City and Cuernavaca. She also traveled to Canada, Hawaii, Ecuador, Spain, Japan, England, Panama, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. She will be remembered for her limitless positivity and optimism, as she was a constant source of joy for those around her. She had a strong but quiet faith. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sugar Land and shared her faith with those closest to her.
