Its another fall, and you are not here to talk to.  Its lonely without your opinions, theories, points and friendly convo..  You were there for me through it all.

Today was a tough day. We said so long and see you later to the Chief of our awesome team. Scott Gilhousen. He was beyond dedicated and well respected by many. He called or texted me each day I was in hospital and even left a meeting early to attend my dad’s visitation. That’s just the way he was. It was at his recommendation I get a hobby and I decided to take up oil painting. I’m just sad I wasn’t able to paint that sailboat for him.

50 years young and public education was his career choice. Thanks for your commitment  and spending half your life to kids.

So long and see ya later Scott. Job well done. We miss you.

Words can not express my sadness at the untimely loss of my friend and colleague, Scott.

Scott touched so many lives in the most meaningful ways; mine is no different. He made my years away from home more manageable.  I'm grateful for his support in building the data warehouse and analytics platforms.  But my memory of our conversations wasn't anything technical; it's about the German castles.  Somehow, we arrived at the philosophical conclusion that life is too short to wait to climb those castle stairs....  I will miss him dearly.

Scott was a remarkable leader who left a lasting impact both professionally and personally. His genuine care for HISD and his employees was evident in every action he took. Scott was not only a strong leader but also an inspiring motivator, empowering those around him to grow and excel. He had an extraordinary ability to balance firmness with compassion, ensuring that decisions were made with both integrity and empathy. His commitment to fostering a positive work environment was unwavering, always striving to uplift and support his team.

During one of the most challenging times, Scott’s presence was a true blessing. His calm demeanor and thoughtful approach helped navigate through adversity, offering stability and confidence when it was needed most. He had an innate ability to listen and understand, making everyone feel heard and valued. His leadership wasn’t just about achieving results but about caring for the people behind those results. I will be forever grateful for his guidance, his belief in the potential of others, and his relentless dedication to the well-being of his colleagues and the community. Scott’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire all of us.

Scott not only got to know us professionally, but he also wanted to know us personally.   One of our first exercises assigned by Scott was to describe ourselves in 7 words.  As Scott described himself, 3 of his words "...Life Long Learner..." stuck out to me.  We found him to be just that, and he encouraged us to do the same.  Scott was a sponge, always looking to absorb information and share it.  

We will truly miss Scott.  Thanks for taking your time to pour into us.

My sincere condolences to Scott's family and friends.

My heart goes out to all the loving family and friends of Scott Gilhousen. I join you in spirit as we grieve the loss of such a kind, honorable man. I had the honor of getting to know Scott during our time together at Houston ISD, where I immediately recognized his many talents and leadership skills. I watched him lead through challenging times as Chief Information Technology Officer, ensuring every student had access to the resources they needed to learn – even remotely during a pandemic. I admired the way he coached his team, connected with people on a personal level, and how he always wanted the very best for them – personally and professionally.  He will be greatly missed – and I will always remember him and cherish the memories.

I had only been with HISD for about a year when Scott became the Interim CIO. Although I hadn't interacted with him directly, one morning as I walked down the hall, he greeted me with a "Good morning, Karin".  I was completely taken aback that he knew my name, but it meant so much to me.  In that moment, I knew Scott was unlike any CIO I had ever worked for. 
Thank you, Scott, for making me feel valued and for showing that my voice matters. You will be missed, never forgotten.

I am heartbroken on so many levels.  His passing is not just a personal loss but one for the world, as his wisdom, kindness, and generosity touched so many lives. He was such a great friend, advisor, and mentor—one of the smartest people I’ve ever worked with, always ready with insightful advice and unwavering support. Even with his crazy busy schedule, he always found time to lend his expertise to help me in my career.  He had such a positive impact on my life.  He will be profoundly missed!

God is providing comfort and peace for Scott’s family, his IT family, and those of us who worked with him over the years!  Our District’s IT visionary has made a major impact on the students, IT department, and the District overall and his IT legacy will live on in his IT department!  I always saw him smiling and pleasant and I knew the tremendous pressure he had to deal with all the time!  I did make him laugh when I first met him in the beginning and saw his resemblance of Paul McCartney and called him Paul McCartney!  For a long time,  I greeted him as Paul McCartney when I saw him and that alone made us both smile for a moment during the work demands of the day!  

He will truly be missed but he will not be forgotten in IT and HMW overall! 🙏🏽❤️

Scott was an extraordinary leader, a cherished friend, and a passionate advocate for students. His kindness and willingness to help were evident every time I worked with him, both at HISD and when I joined Microsoft. Your beloved son, brother, and friend was truly remarkable in so many ways. His legacy will undoubtedly endure. I will deeply miss collaborating with him, but even more so, I will miss his friendship, his brilliance, and his genuine goodness. May God bring you comfort with each passing day.

It was a pleasure to work with and for Scott. He cared deeply for the students of HISD and for the people who worked for him. He will be missed greatly. God bless Scott's family during this time. I know that it is hard to lose someone you love but know that Scott is now at peace and in heaven with God.

So many laughs and memories made breaking bread. Scott, you will so be missed at our Friday night dinners and Sunday brunches. The out of focus picture was taken by our then 5 year old daughter testing out her new camera - it was one of the first of many dinners together at Barnaby’s

Knowing Scott both as an HISD colleague and a neighbor, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He led the HISD technology department with a sense of dedication and ensured that HISD technology was top-notch. Then he worked just as hard on the condo board ensuring that our property (our homes) was well taken care of. Scott always had a warm greeting, a smile, and a listening ear for everyone. He was never too busy to make time for others. It was a pleasure to have him and Elizabeth as my neighbor. My heart aches, but I know that he made a difference in people’s lives, even if he did not realize he was making a difference. May prayers of comfort be with his family, friends, and colleagues.

Scott's vision, leadership, and dedication left an indelible mark on our organization. Beyond his technical brilliance, Scott was a mentor and an inspiration to many, always guiding with both wisdom and kindness. Scott will forever be remembered with respect, gratitude, and admiration.

You've finally found a place to rest brother. Since we were kids I followed you everywhere you went, and you've finally gone where I can't go yet. I'll see you soon, but not too soon. May God's grace accept you and keep you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.  Mr.Gilhousen will be missed in the HISD technology family.  As our Chief of Technology, he was so approachable and always managed to say a hello.

Certainly, all of us who knew Scott Gilhousen know that he was a wonderful person and friend with many good qualities that he always shared with us.  I admired his kindness, compassion and desire to help others.  He will not be forgotten.  Rest in peace. Blessings forever Scott.  My prayers are with his family and friends.

One day this year, Scott noticed that I was struggling to work on my laptop because I was so used to working with dual screens. Without me even asking, he went out of his way to set up monitors, a keyboard, and a docking station for me, just to make my workday smoother. That was Scott—always seeing where he could help and never hesitating to step in. His kindness made a real difference, not just for me but for so many of us. He will be deeply missed."

Scott was a consummate professional whose expertise, dedication, humility, and strong work ethic propelled him to the position of Chief Information Technology Officer at HISD. He was a servant leader who greeted everyone with a smile, and he showed genuine interest in their wellbeing. Scott will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Me: “U are my journal for the most part. Advice, consolation, and journal- most importantly cousin😂” 
Scott: “Awesome.” 
This was 15 days before he passed

Last convo we had:
Me: “Hows your morning going?”
Scott: “Busy.”
Me: “It’s Friday.”
Little did I know that was Scott’s last Friday on this earth, I still journal to him everyday with no response to my messages. I miss you friend.
