Born on August 7, 1945, in Denver City, Texas, to Wayne Harrison and Cleo Hilterbrand Harrison, Sharon’s early years in West Texas shaped her into the woman she became. A proud 1963 Denver City High School graduate, she continued her education at Abilene Christian University, where she pursued secretarial training and blossomed as a member of the Kappa Chi Women’s Social Club.
The year 1981 marked a beautiful chapter in Sharon’s life when she married her soulmate, Joe Jimmy (“Jim”) Goodman. Their love story unfolded in Midland, Texas, where they built a life filled with devotion to each other, their family, and their community as active members of the Church of Christ. Many cherished hours were spent on the sidelines, proudly watching their son Justin play football at Robert E. Lee High School, a testament to their unwavering encouragement. They continued to champion his ambitions as he pursued higher education at Texas A&M University (Class of ‘99) and South Texas College of Law (Class of ‘02). Their pride also shone brightly for their son Jason, who dedicated years of honorable service to the United States Army in Germany, retiring after a distinguished career that began in 1994.
Sharon possessed a remarkable talent for decorating, transforming every house into an immaculate and welcoming home, whether in Texas or New Mexico. An avid cook, she delighted in sharing her culinary creations, and her green thumb brought vibrant life to her gardens. Beyond her home, Sharon embraced adventure, traveling extensively alongside Jim, creating a tapestry of shared experiences and cherished memories. Her love for her family and community wasn’t just a sentiment; it was woven into the fabric of her daily life, evident in every thoughtful gesture and act of kindness she shared with friends and family near and far.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her brothers, W.C. Harrison, Jr., and Dennis Gerald Harrison; and her parents, W.C. and Cleo Harrison. Her legacy of love and devotion lives on through her sons, Justin and his wife Erin of Hunters Creek Village, Texas, and Jason Freeman and his wife Tracy of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her sisters, Lois Marie Reed of Abilene and Mary Allison of El Paso; and her adored grandchildren, Haley and Maxwell Goodman, and Megan and Claire Freeman.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon's life and the beautiful partnership she shared with Jim will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery in Houston. There, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, their intertwined stories finding their final resting place together.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorials be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
