Mrs. Sharon Sue James, age 82, of Houston, Texas, quietly passed away on Saturday morning, March 23, 2024. She was surrounded and loved on by her children and grandchildren as her body weakened until her soul was released to her final home in heaven. Though our hearts are heavy with our personal loss of her presence, we rejoice that she is reveling in the presence of the Lord and reunited with loved ones who were waiting for her arrival.
Sharon was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on June 22, 1941, to Clarence and Helen Springer, and her family moved several times before settling in Houston, Texas, when she was nine years old. Soon after moving to Houston, her family welcomed her younger brother Ross and later on Jon Springer when Sharon was fifteen. Sharon graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1959 and married Edgar James later that summer on August 15th, 1959. She graduated from Massey Business School and went on to work for Shell Oil Company. While living in the Spring Branch area, she and Edgar began to raise a family that included Karen, Leah, and Aaron. As their family began to grow, they moved to Greenwood Forest where John Paul was born and later on to Tomball, when Salem arrived to complete the family of seven.
Sharon treasured her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, trying out unusual restaurants, and sewing beautiful outfits for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, not only making frequent trips to Pennsylvania in the wintertime to enjoy the snowscapes and in the summertime to escape the Houston heat, but she also traveled extensively abroad and in the Caribbean with family and friends. Her adventurous spirit led her to continually plan "the next trip" with special friends and family members. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren remember her as a fun grandmother who was easy-going and enjoyed engaging in activities with them. Sharon relished spending time with friends, simply hanging out with family, attending Bible study, attending church social events, and singing in the choir at Second Baptist Church.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edgar James; her son John Paul James; her parents; her brother Ross Springer; and two great grandchildren, Abigail Johnson and Chiara Johnson. She leaves behind a significant legacy of children, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and innumerable happy memories by those who shared life with her. As a talented seamstress, she doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren by crafting dresses, costumes, and play outfits. When not sewing, she loved spoiling her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with special gifts or by taking them out to eat, to a movie, or on a special outing. Her giving spirit that continually sought to help family when grandchildren or great grandchildren were born or to babysit when needed are treasured memories and examples we hope to emulate. Her enthusiasm to embrace life to the fullest by attending all special events and even dancing at her grandchildrens' weddings up until her early 80s inspires us to live our own lives with that same vibrant spirit. And finally, her love for the Lord that was fully expressed even in her final days of life encourages us to remain faithful on our own journeys with Jesus.
She is survived by her brother Jon Springer of Houston, TX; her children Karen Johnson and husband Dave of Dover, PA; Leah Crement and husband Dave of College Station, TX; Aaron James of Houston, TX; and Salem James of Houston Texas. Sharon's grandchildren include the following: Joshua Johnson and wife Kathryn; Caleb Johnson and wife Morgan; Jessica Stierhoff and husband Tyler; Jonathan Crement and wife Katalin; Hannah Crement-Parish and husband Jack; Azlyn Brackin; Thomas Brackin; Daniel Brackin; Elena Brackin, and Andrew Brackin. Her great grandchildren brought her great joy in her final years and include Joshua David Johnson, Jr.; Elizabeth Johnson; Juliana Johnson; Dominic Johnson; Bridget Johnson; Samuel Johnson; Ellis Johnson; Reese Louis Johnson V; Oakley Stierhoff; József Crement, Anna Crement; and Bianka Crement. Sharon also leaves behind life-long friends, cousins, and other family members who will undoubtedly miss spending time with her.
A funeral service for Sharon will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079, followed by a committal service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to her church home: Second Baptist Church, Woodway Campus, located at 6400 Woodway Dr., Houston, TX 77057.
