Sherry Ann Sivil Hampton, 90, of Conroe, TX passed away July 25, 2025. She was born June 14, 1935, in Ada, Oklahoma to Cleckler James and Esther Mamie Hill Sivil. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Wayne Hampton, her parents, and brother Cleck Donald Sivil. Sherry is survived by daughters Ginger (Keith) Smith and Robin (Tom) Gibson. Sherry is also survived by six grandsons: Brandon (Rebecca) Smith, Jared (Alison) Smith, Michael Gibson, Mitchell (Sarah Beth) Gibson, Adam (Michaela) Gibson, and Aaron (Taylor) Gibson, and 6 great grandchildren: Eli, Madilyn, and Emma Smith and Everett, Brooks, Gentry and soon to be born baby girl Gibson. Sherry is also survived by 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
Sherry met her husband Delbert Wayne at Galena Park High School, graduating in 1953. They married two years later, on April 16, 1955. They were married 68 years until Delbert’s passing on April 30, 2023. As a newlywed Sherry worked for Prudential Insurance Company. Years later she assisted Delbert in his business, Marine Technical Services, and then became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of their home and decorating it with antiques she and Delbert Wayne acquired at antique auctions and shops when they traveled. Their adventures included trips to Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Colorado, Wyoming, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas. Florida and across Texas. They traveled by car as Sherry was afraid to fly. She finally earned her wings at the age of 83, when she flew to South Carolina to attend her grandson Mitchell’s wedding. This was her first and only time flying.
Sherry was a member of Nassau Bay Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. She and Delbert joined the church in 1969 and raised their family there. Over the years, Sherry served on several committees, including the Caring Center, Flower and Decorating, and Benevolence Committees. Sherry worked in Vacation Bible School as a guide and kitchen volunteer. She loved her church friends.
Sherry was a volunteer candy striper at St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. In this role she made sure patients, and their families were comfortable and had all they needed. She enjoyed using her gift of hospitality to help others feel welcome and supported.
Sherry was in a bowling league for many years, playing weekly. She also played Bridge and Bunco. Years later she insisted that she “really didn’t know how to play Bridge.”
Sherry had a love for cats, Blue Bell Ice Cream, working in the yard, and spending time with friends. She was most proud of her six grandsons. She enjoyed playing cards and games with them, using the simple word “Abracadabra” to convince them she was a magician, attending their athletic, music, and church events, cooking special meals for holidays, and taking family trips. Sherry also enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons: Brandon and Jared Smith, Michael, Mitchell, Adam, and Aaron Gibson.
The family would like to thank Heritage Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care and Devotion Hospice for their kind and loving support.
