Shirley grew up in Wichita Falls surrounded by four brothers. Married at age 15, she was the proverbial 1950’s housewife who devoted her life to her family and was her sons’ biggest cheerleader. She always wanted a little girl of her own but was blessed with four sons. Her eldest son provided her with not one, but two granddaughters which sent her over the moon. She did not work outside the home until the late 1970’s and had a hard time finding the right job. She was an electrician’s assistant, a grocery store service representative, a car rental agency representative, a convenience store cashier and finally secured her dream job of Contracts Coordinator with Enterprise Products in Houston where she worked for over 15 years, retiring in 2001. She loved her job and the people with whom she worked. She was an excellent cook and was well known for making the best chocolate meringue pie and banana pudding you have ever eaten. Her chocolate pie received a record breaking bid of $50 at a charity auction in 2001. She was always helping others and was a good friend to everyone. Her nursing home roommate called Shirley her “sunshine girl”. She was highly competitive in games and loved cards, bingo and dominoes. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, gardening and crafting. She was an avid animal owner and there were always dogs and birds of all sorts in her home. She is now reunited with her two sons who predeceased her and that is comforting for all who knew her. Shirley struggled with Alzheimer's during the last few years of her life. She met her diagnosis with courage but ultimately lost the battle along with most of her memories. As is said about this insidious disease, we remember their love when they can no longer remember.
She is preceded in death by her father, Garland Jones, Sr.; mother, Kittie Mae Jones; sons Floyd Lynn and Mark Wayne Watson; daughter-in-law, Diana Rae Watson and brothers Frank Jones, Garland Jones Jr, and Robert (Bob) Jones.
She is survived by her two sons, James LeeRoy Watson and Allan Edward Watson and his partner, Michael Mason; granddaughter, Tonya Germany and her husband, Kevin Germany; granddaughter, Sonya Gill and her husband, Wesley Gill; great granddaughter, Julia Germany and her partner, Jefferson Dean; great grandsons Reed Hoover and Jackson Gill; great great granddaughters, Karma and Patience Gardner; brother Gary Jones and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Willow Creek Lodge in Tomball for taking such good care and showing such kindness and compassion to our Mom during the four years she resided there.
