Shobna George, wife of Ponnattu Kurian George, passed away on the evening of September 21, 2025. Her final days were spent peacefully in her home in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Shobna is survived by her loving husband (“PK”), children (Ajit and Vijay), daughters-in-law (Sherry and Lori), grandchildren (Abe, Benji and Jay), and dear sisters (Laila, Beena, Anita, Githa, and Renu). The members of the Ponnattu and Palathinkal families and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews mourn her deeply. Shobna’s family asks that she be remembered not for the sadness of her passing, but for the joy she brought to others in life.
Known for her kindness, integrity, wit, intelligence and generous character, Shobna will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Shobna was a dedicated mother as well as a loving and thoughtful friend, sister, aunt, and daughter-in-law, connecting with each friend and family member affectionately. She was a brilliant accountant and a wonderful artist, decorating her home with her stained glass and numerous paintings that beautifully captured the natural world. She loved finding and giving presents, creating gardens with and enjoying beautiful plants and flowers (especially orchids and red roses), traveling (Paris and Rome were favorite cities), shopping (especially with sisters and girlfriends), playing cards, and most of all, spending time chatting and laughing with friends and family.
Her children and grandchildren were a constant source of joy and pride; she saw each person for their unique character, and she was profoundly proud of each and all of them. Shobna’s grandsons, Abe, Benji, and Jay, remember her love and laughter. Her daughters-in-law, Sherry and Lori, deeply admire Shobna’s (Amma’s) intelligence, creation of a wonderful family, and her bravery and unwavering strength throughout and to the end of her life. Shobna’s sons, Ajit and Vijay, will always remember her unending love, enthusiastic support, steadfast encouragement, and the inspiring example she set throughout her life. Her husband of more than 55 years, PK, celebrates their exceptional life together and will miss her dearly.
