Shouling was born and spent her early life in Shanghai, China, and later lived in Tokyo, Japan, before coming to San Francisco, and then to Houston, Texas in 2006.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Norton; and her niece, Yan Liu, both of Houston. In Shanghai, China, Shouling is survived by her mother, Guiying Zhou; brother, Shoulin Liu; sister, Dongxue Liu; and several nieces and other relatives. She also leaves behind countless friends, who were blessed to have known her. Shouling was predeceased by her father, the late Yan Xian Liu; and by her brother, Shoujun Liu.
Shouling and Carl married on the 6th of June 2009 at their home surrounded by friends and family. Shouling enjoyed life and studied elements of the Japanese culture, which she came to greatly admire. She was highly skilled in Ikebana flower arrangement, and was often called to demonstrate the meaningful, subtle nuances of the beautiful and very traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony.
Shouling enjoyed interior design, fashion and traveling with her husband, and they traveled widely in Europe, Asia and the United States. She had a vibrant, child-like spirit that gathered friends around her wherever she went. She was happiest when she was entertaining friends and family in the home she loved and had decorated beautifully.
The family would like to thank Karen Lu, M.D., Elizabeth Travis, Ph.D. and the wonderful staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the exemplary care that Shouling was given.
