Sidney Johnson

Sidney Leverson Johnson was born to George and Margie Johnson on November 20, 1944. He was the eldest of their seven children. Sidney attended grade school in Houston and ultimately graduated from Kashmere Gardens High School in 1963. During his high school years, he was known for his athleticism and staying out of trouble. He was the protector of his siblings and a friend to many. Sidney went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for four years and earned his veteran’s status. Upon his discharge from the navy, he became known as a jack of many trades. He did everything from delivering ice cream for Blue Bell to owning a feed store, a pool hall/game room, to shining boots, but ultimately found his love in being a cowboy! Though Sidney began roping at an older age than most, he was a strong competitor in that and foot races. Sidney fathered six girls, whom have all grown into beautiful women. Sidney ultimately settled in Hempstead, Texas during the latter portion of his life. Everyone knew him around town. He wasn’t afraid of much other than flying. He held his ground and might get mad if you didn’t see it his way. However, despite not knowing we were being taught valuable life lessons from him, all of those who came into contact with Sidney learned something.

Sidney was Survived by his Sisters: Barbara Johnson (Mccarty), Rose Johnson-Kennedy (Andrew), Danette Johnson Porter; Daughters (Mothers of Daughters): Shane Elizabeth Johnson-Proctor & Mary Lou Johnson Reed (Ligaya Breaux), Kecia D. Stevenson (Mary L. Johnson), Shawn Evette Johnson (Burrell) & Shannan Eireen Johnson (Georgetta H. Johnson), Stacey De’laine Shephard (James) (Phyllis Shephard); Son-In-Laws: Christopher W. Burrell, Maurice Reed; Grandchildren: Chynna Robicheaux, Jason Robicheaux, Alexis Jones, Indya Spencer, Brianne Burrell, Collin Burrell; Close Friends: Denatrius Jones, Larry Vaughn, Lawrence Washington, Lewis Lillie, Jaylon Lindsay, Michael Ashley and a host of Nieces & Nephews, relatives and friends.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents: Margie Wilson Johnson and George Johnson, Sr.; Siblings: Naomi Johnson (Reagins), Michael Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, George Johnson, Jr. and Edward Johnson.

A visitation for Sidney will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Elite Life Celebration Chapel, 14000 Chrisman Road, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Elite Life Celebrations Chapel, 14000 Chrisman Road, Houston, TX 77039. A committal service will occur Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 2:45 PM to 3:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
