Sim Kuen Chang was born on March 18, 1936, in Zhou Cun Tang Kou Li Village, China. She was one of five siblings—having two brothers and two sisters.
She married Manuel Chang in 1958 in China. Together they migrated to Caracas, Venezuela for work from 1964 to 1969, before settling in Houston, Texas in 1970. They were married for 37 years until Manuel's passing in April 1995.
Sim had a deep love for gardening and grew a wide variety of vegetables in her backyard. She took great joy in watching her garden flourish each year and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. She was also a talented chef. In her younger years, she worked in Chinese restaurants and would cook delicious meals for loved ones throughout her life.
In her spare time, Sim enjoyed playing mahjong with close friends, often spending entire days at the game table.
Sim is survived by her eldest brother, his wife and children in Taiwan; her younger sister and her children in Sacramento; her younger brother, his wife, their children and grandchildren in San Francisco; and her youngest sister and her children in China. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces Helen, Amy, Cindy, and Lisa along with their spouses and children.
A celebration of Sim’s life will be held on August 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park, 2454 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77077.
