

She is predeceased by her parents: Joaquin and Raquel Saravia; her brother, Leonel Saravia and son-in-law Efrain Aragon. Sonia is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jorge Arturo Ortiz, of 48 years. They were married in Guatemala, Central America on November 12, 1965. Sonia Saravia Ortiz is lovingly remembered by her children Nuvia Saravia Aragon, Raquel Ortiz & Enrique Piña, Sonia Maritza & Richard Westerveld. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life, Erica Villalta, Ronnie Risner, Daniel Joseph Westerveld, David Anthony Westerveld, and Cristian Andres Piña-Ortiz. She was blessed to see a great-grandaughter Ileana Mariah Muñoz, who put a twinkle in her eyes. Sonia Saravia Ortiz was born in Guatemala, Central America on February 24, 1940. She had many siblings that followed, Alma Saravia Cabrera, Marta Saravia Lopez, Carolina Saravia Ortega, Leonel Saravia, Yolanda Saravia Aldana, Rolando Saravia and Miriam Saravia Motiño. Her family began to serve God at an early age, a practice that would continue unto this day by raising their families in the Christian faith. Sonia and Jorge moved to the U.S. in 1969 and raised a family in Houston, TX. They served God at Templo Bautista South Aldine. One of Sonia’s favorite biblical verses was “I can do all things in Christ who gives me strength.” One of her favorite hymns was “The Eye of the Sparrow.” Faith was very important to Sonia and she continued to praise God until her death.
The visitation will be from 1-5PM on Saturday, August 9th at Brookside Funeral Home. The service will immediately follow at 6PM at South Aldine Hispanic Baptist Church, 2121 Aldine Mail Route, Houston, TX.
