Our family when Jane and I were 7 & 6 graders; Steve & Mamie were raising Joanie & Mindy along with Carol expecting Lisa!
Steve was forever supportive, encouraging, and positive ( I remember when he was reading “The Power of Positive Thinking”); negativity was not in his vocabulary.  
He was easy to love and  easily loved and respected by everyone .
WE are all blessed to have had him with us for a while.

I only heard of Mr. James passing yesterday and I'm sorry Im late with this. I was deeply saddened by his death. I worked for Mr James at Randalls in Humble back around 1979-1980. I was 16 and it was my first job and he was my first boss ever. I seriously doubt he would have remembered me, I was a young sacker at his store 34 years ago and I only worked there a short time. I will never forget him though. He made an impression on me which will last my lifetime. I was determined that if I were ever anyone's boss, I would be like Mr. James. I am now and to this day I try to emmulate this man. He was kind and caring and took care of his employees. I also remember very well that he was a man of God who knew Christ personally and was unashamed of the Gospel. His faith was evident in his actions and never hidden. Other than my own father, Mr. James influenced me more than any man I ever knew growing up. I have no doubt where Mr James is right now. (I think there is a mistake in the obit where it says he retired from Randalls in 1977. I worked for him in 1980)

Mamie I remember when you were a Castleberry. I remember Steve thumping the bass fiddle at Gospel Truth Pentecostal Church. You were married 60 years. My wife, Darlene, and I celebrated 50 years of marriage last July. God bless you, Mamie and we are sorry for your loss.

I remember Steve as a storyteller and jokster. He loved to share his memories and he was always ready to share a song. He was a special cousin that was one of my mother's (Jerry Sue Williams) favorites.I'm sure he was singing as he strolled thru Heaven's gates. Love to all, Laurie Meyer

All my thoughts and love go to all the family. I never met him, but his daughter, Elaine, is one of the most caring people I know, due, I am sure, to her upbringing. God be with you all in this difficult time.

Steve James was a wonderful man of God.  He was an example of  a true Christian man.  He was very knowledgeable in the Bible & quoted scriptures often.  He will be missed.  One of his favorite quotes was, " ain't God good".  Will miss hearing.  Dimple Odom, Houston, TX

My best memories of Steve revolve around his smiles,, jokes,songs, and faith. I always loved family times because of spending time sharing memories of our grandparents and singing favorite hymns and songs! My heart goes out to Mamie, his children,his grand kids, and his sisters.  I know he is in heaven with Jesus, his mom and dad, Jane and his grandparents telling stories and singing! To Richard James and Family, I am sadden to hear of your loss.  Though I only know Richard, I wish I could be there for him.  My heart breaks for each of you.  It has been said the son reflects the character of his father.  Steven Ellis James was evidently a good man.

I'll be there when you need a friend to cry with or just to listen.  I'll be there! We invite you Mindi and Mom to spend a weekend with us when you both are ready.  We will treat you like princesses.  I no your dad would like this.  We are hear!  Love you!

I remember seeing Steve and Mamie at Aunt Althea's in Hillister and at family reunions. I always enjoyed the storytelling and singing at family reunions. Thank you for the sweet memories. Your family is in my prayers.

Aunt Mamie, Joanie, Mendi, Lee, Elaine and Richie,my heart hurts for all of you. I know the pain that you are going through. Time will help but depend on the Lord for peace and comfort. Uncle Steve, you were the one who welcomed everyone into your arms.  You could always make me laugh, put a big smile on my face.  I will never forget the family reunions with the singing and the strumming of your guitar.  Everyone gathering around too join in.   Heaven has gained an awesome singing Angel! I remember when we first came to Texas and you where teaching me play the guitar and you and Mamie bought us a purse and put money in it. I will always have good memories of you. I will miss your singing but I know you are singing with the Angels in Heaven and you are getting to see all your loved ones who have passed away and you are watching down on us. Friend, Neighbor, Boss, Choir Member, Bass Player, Youth Director and many other things, Steve was in my life.  My Daddy honored Steve and Mamie.  Glenda and I watched them to better understand how to raise five children in one household. Steve was always a "level head" in times of confusion. He will be sorely missed.

So many good memories of Steve , Mamie and family . I remember his singing and playing bass .  He had a wonderful mind.  He will be missed .
