Steve Kent lived a life marked by love, faith, and quiet strength and was called home on the afternoon of January 18, 2026. Tall, handsome, and known for his irresistible smile, Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy was time spent with those he loved most.
Born in Houston on April 23, 1944, he graduated from J.H. Jones High School in 1962. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and proudly served two years as a Military Policeman. A lifelong athlete, Steve's love of competition carried him through flag football, track and field, running, and-most of all-softball. That passion lives on in his two sons. Our family extends heartfelt thanks to Steve's friends and teammates at Harris County Senior Softball for more than 30 years of camaraderie and support.
Steve poured his heart into raising his sons, Steven and Dillon-coaching their teams, cheering from the sidelines, and volunteering in their school PTA. His life was grounded and strengthened by the love and partnership of his wife, Barbara. He also served faithfully as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a proud member of the American Legion.
Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara; his son Dillon; his son Steven and wife Megan; and his cherished grandson, Oliver.
The family warmly welcomes friends to a memorial service for Steve Kent at Oaks Presbyterian Church on January 24 at 11:00 a.m., with a celebration-of-life reception to follow. Please wear red in joyful honor of Steve's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association or to Oaks Presbyterian Church (Memorial Fund), 1576 Chantilly Ln, Houston, TX 77018.
Steve's life was a blessing to us all.
