Susan was born February 25, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, Seymour and Willie Mae Dear.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David L. Garrett, Ph.D., of Cypress, Texas, daughters Megan (James) Graham of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jill Garrett, of Cypress, Texas, grandchildren Erin (Matthew) Warakomski of Cypress, Texas, and Corbin and Audrey Graham of St. Paul, Minnesota, and brother, Seymour (Diane) Dear, III, and family of Spring, Texas, and many family and beloved pets.
Throughout her life, she was strong willed and intensely determined. This determination led her to study science, the art of Judo, and scuba diving. In her years after graduating from Louisiana State University with a degree in microbiology, she worked diligently in cardiology research under Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., at Baylor College of Medicine.
She shared her love of cooking and animals with close and extended family members. As an avid reader, she would have a plethora of books that she would read through quickly and many that she would count as her favorite. She had a passion for animals and always shared her home and her space with them. She was always ready for a new adventure to anywhere and nowhere at the same time. She would place herself outside in the sun to take in the world around her. She has always been an inspiration to others and will forever inspire more.
