Just found out about TA passing he was my Dad's first cousin Dad said he was always like a little brother coming up and I only met him one time in 1984. My condolences  George Jr. Hallsville Texas 

Last time I visited Uncle TA and Aunt Gladys was a happy time indeed.  We laughed about my pulling alongside of them on the freeway, bumping the siren on my police car.  He was driving a purple pickup and would later tell me it was red.  Fond memories last forever.

Uncle TA would load me into my homemade little red wagon when I was about 5 years old.  He pulled me in that wagon all over the yard.  He was about 17 at the time.  A kind man, great barbecue cooker and a swell uncle.

Late last year, when visiting my family, I took my grandfather to IHOP. One of his favorite things to do was go out to eat. My dad always said he would try and out-eat my grandpa but he never could. He loved black coffee and conversation over breakfast. When I was a kid, my grandma would make him black coffee, hers with milk and sugar, and they’d have a cup together before my grandpa dozed off in *his* recliner in the living room.
So I took him to IHOP, just the two of us, for breakfast. He said he’d never been there before, but he had. That was just the dementia. We had a splendid time. I ordered for him, we laughed and talked about lots of things, and when I asked for the check, I found out that someone had anonymously paid for our breakfast. I told grandpa, but he asked about the check again and again. He looked so happy and shocked every time I told him that someone had paid for it. “Who? Why?” he would ask. He wanted to thank them. My grandpa was grateful for everything, always. We only got to go out for breakfast one more time after that. My mom and I took him to Humble City Cafe. I think that was the last real meal we all had together. I miss him, my mom, and grandma more than anything. But I’m glad they’re all together again and I can’t wait for the day we’re reunited.


I’ve only been a part of this family for almost 8 years,  but I would like to mention what qualities I saw in TA.
TA was a fun loving man, but a christian man, as well. He loved his wife Gladys and along with her, he loved sharing his home, with others, especially family. He treated newcomers, like myself, as  no stranger, but as family from way back. He loved to fill our bellies with his delicious BBQ.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed and a hard worker. He loved to have conversations about past adventures and new hobbies. Just recently my husband David, and I come to his house to help clean and fix things and even with his mind not being quite right, he would ask what he could do to help and we would tell him to just sit and relax. He would say that he tries to take care of things but he just doesn’t know what he is suppose to do, and we would say you are doing just what you need to do sit and relax, but that did not seem to go over with him too well, and seemed to be upsetting to him. So the next time we came I tried a different approach and got him to help me in picking up some trash. His whole demeanor changed he was cutting up and laughing with me, he loved to laugh and make others smile and laugh with him. He loved helping, staying busy and feeling needed. TA loved his family and it shows in his children and grandchildren, they were his life as well as his wife and his pets! He will be greatly missed by this newcomer, and even though I had to remind him who I was when I came over, my heart is saddened that I don’t have more time to hear his stories from his past, to laugh with him, and to keep busy with him.
