Terry is survived by his wife of 17 years, Linda Berthiaume McCann; his children Jason, Jessica, and Nick; and his stepdaughters Wendy and Christy who lovingly gave him the title of “Bonus Dad”. Together with Linda (our Mimi) he was beloved “Papa” to grandchildren James Patrick, Trinity, Emilee Grace, Bodhi, and Scotty. Terry is also survived by his sisters Nancy, Vicki, and Mary Lou, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 29 years, Judy McCann.
Terry was born on July 23, 1948, to F.J. and Doris McCann in California, Missouri. He attended California High School, and earned a degree from Linn Technical College in Linn, Missouri. Following graduation, Terry went to work for Campbell Electronics in St. Louis, which eventually led he, Judy, and their children to Houston, where Terry started his own business ConServ Equipment, from which he retired in 2022.
Terry was an avid model railroader, with a large, always-in-process layout in the home he shared with Linda. Terry loved to talk about trains with his kids, grandkids, and his extensive network of fellow train enthusiasts – who generously worked to bring Terry’s layout to life so that he could see it running before his passing.
Terry was also the king of “dad jokes” and he used them to great effect during these last, difficult months to lighten our mood and bring smiles to our faces. No obituary of Terry’s would be complete without sharing his best – in the hopes that we all remember him with joy: What’s the difference between a hippo and a Zippo? A hippo weighs about 2000 pounds, and a Zippo is just a little lighter.
A visitation and catered reception for Terry will be Sunday, August 6, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, located at 13001 Katy Freeway in West Houston. Funeral Mass for Terry will be celebrated on Monday, August 7, at 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Community, located at 10135 West Road in Cypress.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation in Terry's honor to the Missouri Pacific Historical Society (http://mopac.org)
