Thelma Curry was born as the youngest of nine children on a farm at the tail end of the Great Depression. Growing up in a large family during such a challenging time instilled in her a deep sense of resilience, hard work, and compassion. Her early years were filled with the joys and trials typical of the times, but she always faced life with a positive attitude and a strong faith.
That positive attitude and faith were tested when her husband tragically died, leaving her a single mom with a 1-year-old child. Some might have complained or simply quit. But not Thelma. She went to a community college to learn accounting so she could support herself and Becky.
Thanks to a series of matchmaking events, Thelma would meet the man who would be by her side since the day they exchanged vows on May 7, 1960. Together, Thelma and Ralph created a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. They were blessed with children, whom Thelma nurtured with an endless supply of love and wisdom. She was a devoted mother who always put her family's needs above her own, instilling in her children the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance.
Thelma had a unique ability to make anyone who was part of her life feel special and valued - - to Thelma it didn’t matter whether you family, friend or a stranger, you mattered. She celebrated the successes of others, comforted people in times of sorrow, and provided sage advice whenever it was needed. Thelma always showed up when she was needed the most.
Thelma's life was a testament to the power of love and kindness. She was truly the "wind beneath the wings" of all who knew her, providing strength, support, and encouragement. Her positive influence was felt far and wide, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
Her favorite song, "Wind Beneath My Wings," encapsulated her role in the lives of her loved ones. The lyrics spoke to the way she lifted others up, always there to provide a gentle push or a comforting embrace.
Thelma's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a beautiful example of selflessness, compassion, and unwavering love. She touched countless lives, leaving behind a world that is better for having had her in it.
