Thom Thi Nguyen

Thom was a loving and devoted homemaker and mother. She was a member of the La Vang Catholic Church in Houston, TX and had a passion for sewing, gardening, and taking care of her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and one time caterer.

She was a very beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. In 1975, she immigrated to the United States with her family and two other families with just the shirt on her back. Thom and her family eventually made their way from Pennsylvania to Louisiana, where they settled for 40+ years. Thom worked and toiled to create a better life for her family. Her strong work ethic and tenacity was an inspiration to all. She was well known for her compassion in the community and would always share her possessions, while meager, with others less fortunate.

She will be dearly missed, and we will all hold her in our hearts when we perform any act of selflessness. Because in doing so, we are reminded that it’s what she would have done.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sia Van Bui whom she married in 1956, her brother Hien Nguyen, sister-in-law Mot Nguyen, her mother Quyen Thi Nguyen, her grandson Andrew Bui, son-in-laws Phu Pham and Cam Nguyen, and daughter Ninh Kieu Nguyen. She is survived by her sons Vinh Bui, Mac Van Bui, Khai Van Bui, Quynh Van Bui, and daughters Nuong Thi Bui-Hoduc, Ngot Thi Pham, and Siu Nguyen; her grandchildren Lan Pham-Vo, Dung Pham-Regoli, Ha Pham-Korcynski, Nam Pham, Viet Joseph Pham, Oanh Nguyen, Ky Nguyen, Lori Nguyen, Cindy Nguyen, Thien Nguyen, Mai Nguyen, Hong Nguyen, Bruce Bui, Jennifer Bui, Nicole Bui, Steven Bui, Jason Bui, Justin Bui, Amelie Hoduc and Jonah Hoduc; and her numerous great grandchildren.

The following are the funeral events:

1. Thursday, June 9th, 2022, a prayer service will be held at La Vang Church on 12320 Old Foltin Road, Houston, TX 77086 from 6pm to 8pm.

2. Friday, June 10th, 2022, the memorial service will be held at the American Heritage Funeral Home on 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, from 1pm to 8pm.

3. Saturday, June 11th, 2022, the funeral mass will commence at 10:30am and end at 11:30am at the La Vang Church and the graveside service will

be conducted from 12:30pm to 1pm at the Earthman Resthaven Cemetery located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A reception will follow at the La Vang Church to gather and share your memories of Thom.
