Thomas “Tommy” Baxter Martin Jr., 67, of Tomball, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 13, 2026. Born on Friday, October 13, 1958, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Janet and Thomas Martin Sr., Tommy lived life with a joyous spirit and was defined by his determination, adventure, and legendary work ethic.
A proud alumnus of Louisiana State University, Tommy graduated in 1981 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. His career took him from Mobil to Exxon Mobil and later Statoil (now Equinor), where his dedication, intelligence, and honesty earned him the respect of all who worked with him. However, his grit wasn't reserved just for the oil fields; Tommy was a formidable rugby player, serving as a winger and outside center for LSU, Crescent City, Baton Rouge, All Louisiana, All Deep South, All South, All East, Louisiana Exiles Select, and many other teams.
Beyond his professional and athletic feats, Tommy was a man of many layers—honest to a fault, fiercely independent, intelligent, and strong. He was a joyous and goofy spirit always willing to showcase his dance moves. He loved the outdoors, travel, and was a die-hard sports fan.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Martin Sr., and his beloved first wife, Claudia Mansour Martin, in 2009. In 2011, he was blessed to find love again with Johanna Tschanz, whom the family affectionately regards as a saint for her devotion and care.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna Hanson Tschanz; his mother, Janet; and his three daughters, Jolie (Grant), Gabrielle (Clay), and Carley. He was a proud "Pops" to his grandchildren, Georgia and Callan. He also leaves behind his step-children, Tyler (Nicole) and Emma; and his five siblings, Timmy (Allison), Theresa (Chris), Tammy (Mark), Terry (Shelly), and Tina (Bret), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Brookside Champions Funeral Home, 3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Houston Area Parkinson Society.
