Travis W. Starr Sr.

Travis W. Starr Sr., born October 15, 1930, went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2011. Born in Stephenville, TX, the son of Thomas E. Starr and Freda E. Starr. He grew up in Houston where he graduated from Aldine High School in 1949. He then proceeded on to graduate with a master’s in education at The University of Houston. He then served the United States Army for 2 years. In 1953 he married Joyce F. Harwell of Houston, TX whom he has been married to for the past 57 years. He is survived by his wife Joyce Starr of Trinity, TX; son, Travis W. Starr Jr. and wife Natalie of Mayville, NY, and three grandsons, Travis III, Kyle and Jack.

He served in various positions in the Houston Independent School District. Retiring as deputy superintendant for HISD. He was an avid hunter and woodworker, a wonderful and loyal husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also involved in the Trinity Hospital System, serving as board member for many years and a member of Onalaska Church of Christ. He will be dearly missed by all. His legacy will continue in the hearts of those that knew him.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, February 14th at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Brookside Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
