Velva Loretta Staples Aubert, 86, was the daughter of the late Elder Walter Staples, Eleanor Collins and Elder Louise Huff-Staples. She was born October 9, 1937 in Beckley, West Virginia and attended Byrd Prillerman High School in Amigo, West Virginia.
At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and she joined her father’s church, Gospel Tabernacle Church in Keystone, West Virginia where she was a faithful member. Velva was a member of Israel Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., pastored by her son, Reverend Lance T. Aubert Sr.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Harold Lester Aubert Sr. on October 9, 1969 until his death on June 29, 2011. She retired from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she worked as a dedicated Environmental Services Supervisor for over 30 years.
Some of her favorite pastimes were listening to musical artists such as; Al Green, BeBe King, Otis Redding, Luther Vandross, Mahalia Jackson and songs in that era. She loved when family got together for a good time and loved dancing at family gatherings. Velva also enjoyed cooking on holidays as those were her favorite times of the year.
Velva peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at home in Houston, TX with loved ones by her side. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children and loved ones.
Velva Aubert is survived by her brother, Bishop Glen A. Staples (Sharon); sister, Elder Yvonne Staples-Brown (Michael); children: Sandra Harris, Diane Harris, Paige Harris, Linda Aubert, Sandra Aubert-Newsham (Lyman), Adele Aubert, Regina Aubert-Williams (Jonathan), Lance T. Aubert Sr. (Shawanda), Deborah Aubert-Bell (Honre), Harold Auber Jr. (Karrie) and Donna Aubert; and grandchildren: Camden Newsham, Carter Newsham, Jourdan Williams, Lance Aubert Jr., Todd Lance Aubert, Traquan Brown, Kdarius Woods, Christian Price, Dara Lindsey and Elijah Lindsey, Ahren Bell, and Amaya Bell, Dejanae Aubert, Yulia Aubert, Harold (Bebe) Aubert III, LaDonia Aubert, Jaylon Joyner, Austin Randolph (Pedra), Harold Randolph (Patricia), Damian Randolph (Shalan), Todd Harris, and David Harris.
Velva was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lester Aubert Sr.; her mother’s, Eleanor Collins and Elder Louise Huff-Staples; her father, Elder Walter Staples; her siblings: Walter “Bo” Staples, Johnny Mae Thompson, Zetta Mae Guyton, Euvetta Bady, and two daughters: Terry Aubert and Brenda Aubert-Randolph
