

Virginia (Aguilar) Figueroa died November 5, 2021 at the age of 89 after a prolonged illness and hospital stay. She passed while in hospice care at her daughter’s home and in the company of her children.
Virginia is survived by her children Julia, George, and Susan; her daughter-in-law, Sheri Figueroa; her son-in-law, Clyde Davison; her grandchildren Kevin Slawson and his spouse, Heather Slawson, and Matthew Figueroa; her great-grandchildren, Caleb Slawson and Abigail Slawson; cherished sister-in-law Rebecca Flores, and aunt, Bertha Garza. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George, and her parents and siblings.
A lifelong Houstonian, Virginia graduated from Jefferson Davis High School, where she participated in the pep squad and where she met her future husband, George Garza Figueroa. Married to George in December 1953, Virginia moved to California, briefly, to be closer to her new husband while he trained as a Marine to deploy to Korea.
After George’s military service, Virginia and George established their first home in Houston and started their family with Julia Ann in 1960 and George Edward in 1961.
In late 1968, Virginia and George purchased the home where they welcomed their youngest child, Susan Christina, in 1969. They remained in their Hidden Valley home through George’s death in 2016 and Virginia’s recent passing.
Virginia worked as an office manager at Wexler Jewelry for over 50 years. She traveled throughout the United States with her husband and children. She embarked on two trips to Europe, visiting Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium and The Netherlands. She enjoyed camping with her family, regular trips to Las Vegas and Reno, slot machines, cooking for and entertaining her family, Mexican music, her dogs, and decorating for every single holiday.
She was outspoken and willful, generous, and thoughtful. She will be missed by her family and friends.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A rosary service will occur Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Assumption Catholic Church, 901 Roselane St, Houston, TX 77037. A committal service will occur Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Serving as pallbearers are Clyde Davison, Kevin Slawson, Matthew Figueroa, Arnold Gonzales, Chris Sanchez and Alfred Martinez Jr.
