June 15, 1954 – February 8, 2022
Virginia (Ginger) Neel Hill was born on June 15, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents, John and Eloise Neel. Ginger was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend to many and passed peacefully from this life to life eternal in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 8, 2022, after an eighteen month hard-fought battle with Cancer.
Ginger graduated with a degree in Accounting from LSU Shreveport in 1976. She met her husband of 45 years, Rodney Hill, when the two were in high school. They married in 1976 and moved to Houston to follow careers. Her adult life was spent devoted to her faith, family, and friends with passion through the years for living a healthy life physically, mentally, and spiritually. Ginger spent 43 years devoted to service through Willow Meadows Baptist Church. She spent 4 decades at the top of her professional career as a CPA growing a practice founded on the principles of excellence and honesty. And she spent thousands and thousands of hours working on behalf of other people including work with Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), youth programs, senior adult groups, the recovering community, and those in need of pro bono accounting help. She had a listening ear, a compassionate heart and kind words in every scenario. It would be difficult if not impossible to find a person who has ever had serious conflict with Ginger or could say a bad word about interaction with her. She was faithful, kind, compassionate, generous and had eyes that sparkled. She had a radiant smile and lived life to the full.
Ginger is predeceased in death by her parents and her brother Frank Neel. She is survived by her husband Rodney Blair Hill and their sons Kirby and Zachary Hill, all of Houston; her brothers Jerry Neel (wife, Pat); Eddie Neel (wife, Betty) of Keithville, LA; sisters-in-law Lisa Hill Delancey (husband, Russel) of Bossier City, LA, Gina Hill Parker (husband, Rob) of Mobile, AL; brother-in-law Bruce Hill (Debbie) of Mount Dora, FL; nieces and nephews; and many friends she spent time with who thought of her as their sister, mentor, second mom, aunt or grandma.
Ginger’s family would like to thank the incredible care team at MD Anderson Cancer Center led by Dr. Hussein Tawbi and Dr. Sapna Patel (title); Dr. Dani Bidros and the neurosurgery team at The Methodist Hospital; the renowned physical therapy experts at TIRR; and the many incredible doctors and nurses who cared for Ginger during her illness. Gratitude also to the many friends and prayer warriors who lifted Ginger and the Hill family up routinely and often.
Ginger was bright, wise, knowledgeable, and honest. She loved flowers and scripture and learning more about both. She exuded joy. She prayed for many and felt the prayers of hundreds and hundreds of friends and family members in the months leading up to her passing. She was one of a kind in the best possible way.
