Virginia McDonald (Kosley) “Granny” of Meadows Place, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the age of 84. Granny was born on January 27, 1939 in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she grew up with a very large extended family. Her father, John Kosley, was the oldest of 20 children, so she had 19 aunts and Uncles along with too many cousins to count!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McDonald, Brothers Chuck Kosley and Jerry Kosley, and Sister Vicki Smith.
Granny is survived by sister Sylvia Eichsteadt, sons Steve McDonald (Linda), Bob McDonald, grandchildren Lisa Mackey (Travis), Kim Thompson (Kirk), David McDonald, John McDonald, and Stephanie Langan (Patrick). She is also survived by her great grandchildren Addy Mackey, Brynn Mackey, Caroline Mackey, and Cooper Langan.
Granny met Jim, who was a young Army Sergeant from Texas stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, at a dance, and they were married on November 2, 1957. Shortly after their marriage, Jim was transferred to Germany where they lived for 3 years with their young son, Bob. Jim was then transferred to Fort Ord, California where they lived for another 3 years. When Jim’s enlistment was up, they decided to move to Houston, Texas (where neither had ever lived), so they loaded up the Volkswagon beetle and headed to Houston from California. Shortly after arriving in Texas, their son, Steve was born. Jim made a drastic change from Drill Sergeant and Artillery Gunner to getting an Accounting Degree and becoming a CPA. When Jim started his own CPA firm, Granny balanced taking care of their two young sons while working with Jim to help him grow a successful practice.
Granny loved family gatherings – especially Christmas and having an annual “Easter Egg Hunt”. She also loved the outdoors, and being around water. She & Jim spent many happy years cruising Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in their boat, the “Ginny Jim”.
The family would like to thank TruCare Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days. We would also like to thank Hampton assisted living at Meadows Place, where she lived for the past few years, for their wonderful care, assistance, and companionship.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation, Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Forest Park Westheimer.
