Virginia Francine Wood was born to Gary Lynn and Dianne Mathews Wood on the 24th of July 1974. She attended St. Thomas Episcopal School from pre-school through the 8th grade. Later she completed 9th through 12th grades at Clovis West High School in Fresno, California. She was both a gifted student and exceptional athlete. As a young girl she played soccer for Near Town Soccer League, softball for West University Softball League and was a member of The Briar Club Swim Team. Later she was a swim team member for her high school in California. During her senior year of high school she and a fellow student won the Best Film award for the state of California.
Virginia attended college at California State University - San Francisco, graduating in 1998. She later obtained additional training to became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a job she truly loved. She played soccer through San Francisco's city league. She was also active in the LGBTQ community and animal rescue organizations. At various times in her life she had rescue bunnies, dogs and cats; all were well loved. Her life was not perfect, however, and later in life she had to deal with the challenges of depression and alcoholism.
Virginia's journey on this earth concluded on Monday, the 30th of November 2020. Left behind to miss her terribly are her parents and brother, Lynn Wood, and family of Albany, Oregon. Also considered as family is her long time best friend, Jared Eli, of San Francisco, California. Virginia was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, John & Floy Mathews of Lonoke, Arkansas, her paternal grandparents, Harold and Frances Wood of Burkburnett, Texas, and her paternal great-grandmother, Georgia Crane, also of Burkburnett. There are many happy memories of gatherings and celebrations at her grandparents with her cousins and other extended family,
Due to the Covid virus no services are planned at this time; it is hoped that at a later date a memorial service may be held. Virginia was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and Rev. Cliff Ritter offered a prayer at her interment at Glenwood Cemetery.
