Vivienne was my first mother-in-law... she drove us to the hospital when 2nd grand-daughter, Tiffany, was born. Without, her support & guidance early, early that morning, Tiffany, would have been born at home instead of in the hospital.  

I'll ALWAYS admire Vivienne's strength, strong will and fortitude.  Her life was not easy and yet she always had a smile for others.

Sorry we fell out of touch, mum.

Dear Chris /Gail and John,
I am praying for you today as you celebrate Vivienne's home-going to Heaven.She was a wonderful lady. Everyone has been blessed to have know her. I just loved her beautiful smile and exciting voice. Vivienne taught each little girl or lady the proper and correct way to present herself. Most of all she had the LOVE of the LORD.It is my desire today that you feel the comforting ,peaceful arms of JESUS lifting you up and supporting you.A mother's prayer never ceases.If you don't know HIM .accept HIM today!What a heavenly gift that would be ! love you.joy ann

It has been my privilege and a BLESSED one to have known "Nana". It never failed she would always greet me with "Hello my love!"There would always be a hug, a kiss. and her most glorious smile as shown in her picture. She made you feel like that you were the most
important one in the room.Yes , if you were around Vivienne any amount of time, you were shown the proper manners and ettiquette.But most of all you could tell she was different. The differnce was the LOVE of JESUS ! Vivienne you will be missed but you are in the "HOLY CHOIR NOW!'Sing , sing , sing.

Nana...great lady! Your exuberance, your smile, your British accent...it was always good to have you and Papa with us...your legacy, your love for Jesus, your prayer for your family...your love and finger print and prayers are on many...I hear Heaven is Great, you're gonna love it...

Nana - we will miss your sweet spirit and proper attitude.  I always felt like I was having tea when I was with you at the holidays.  Your beautiful accent and always beautifully dressed.  You always kind of took me to another place that I had never actually been.  Love - Kendra and the Hunt family

Our sweet Nana, words can't express the love that our hearts hold for you. You created a Christian legacy for our family and set the example of what it means to love Jesus with your whole life. Thank you for loving us and giving us amazing memories that we hold in our hearts. I smile as I picture you with your hands raised singing praises to Jesus... I can hear your sweet voice and see your beautiful smile.

My dear Nana, I will always remember the great times us grandkids had just having you around. You were always so determined and positive. Such a joy to be around. You will always be our "Lovie".

Vivienne Constance Christmas Alford Arcus, would best be known as “Nana” to family, and friends.  She really lived up to her nickname as “Vivacious Viv”.  
Vivienne lost her Dad and Sister during the War, and her Brother was killed in an auto accident. Vivienne was active in the military for Britain during WWII, and moved from her Mom’s when she met and married a Texan.  Parker and Vivienne arrived safely at Fort Benning, Ga., but all Vivienne’s family treasures sank on another ship.
 Nana never lost her British accent, and when her first son came home from kindergarten pronouncing tomato and potato with a “Texas drawl”, it hurt her ears to have the King’s English mispronounced.   Five sons within seven years, at one time three in cribs, and that was before disposable diapers. She loved the boys in white shirts and jeans, and admitted spoiling them by laying out their clothes and two towels each at bedtime. (Thanks Nana) 
Vivienne’s thoughts of fame seemed glamorous, little did she know that she would make Medical Records when she recovered from removal of a lung after a battle with Tuberculosis. Her youngest was just two and she was separated from them in another state for nearly a year. Her tenacity and zest for life motivated her to fulfill her purpose. 
Nana may not have been a U.S. Citizen until later in life, but she loved America, was active at the Voting Polls, even though she could not vote. She loved campaigning for America’s values of freedom, independence, and love of God. She always enjoyed sports, and one of the highlights of U.S. tradition was to attend her first football game.  Expecting that certainly by the fall she could show her fashionable British woolen clothes, only to nearly roast under the Texas sun. 
Viv soon learned the back roads from Memorial to Champions Golf Club, and became a very strong golfer. She would then rush back in her station wagon to shuttle boys to their respective ball games. Competition was strong with brothers on opposing football teams, so she would often trade sides during the game. Nana enjoyed competition and hard work, so Marathon Bridge became a favorite. That was in her spare time while working at Daniel Industries and selling Venus Aloe Vera products. 
Vivienne and Albert L. Arcus married in Hawaii, and became world travelers.  Whether on a cruise, in Hawaii, the Philippines, or Australia, Nana and Popa loved waltzing, singing, entertaining, and enjoying friends and family. 
She delighted in her family, and enjoyed singing Nursery Songs to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, one in particular “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, have you any wool? one  for the master, one for the dame.  However, with Nana’s accent, the children thought she was saying one for the MONSTER.  The children enjoyed the songs and phonetic lessons; however, she just could not get them to speak as a “Brit”.
Nana and Popa loved tradition, and celebrating Christmas was a highlight for the children. Decorations and goodies were shared with neighbors, and Nana loved creating her Nativity figurines for her children.  Christmas was her favorite Holiday.  Imagine having that as your maiden name.  When Vivienne accepted Jesus Christ as her savior, she knew why Christmas was her favorite holiday.  She loved sharing her love and the love of our Lord. Definitely Vivacious Viv, when it came time to tell her testimony.  Vivienne would boldly proclaim He took away her desire to smoke.
Nana preached her love for the Lord, and sometimes she used words.  Nana would often say she would love to have known the Lord earlier in her life. Vivienne’s greatest shared desire was to have all of her children, husband, family and friends accept Jesus as Lord.  Vivienne would claim that one day all her children would have arms raised in adoration. While we miss our Nana, we know she has won the race ….”Well done my good and faithful daughter”.
Nana’s  sayings - as remembered by her  first “Daughter-in-love”,(Nana did not like the term “in-law”) these are a few;  you probably have some favorites.

The Hearthstone @ Braeswood family offers our sincere condolences to the Alford and Arcus families. We loved and continue to love "Nana". While she is absent in presence, her smiles, joyous laughter, and nurturing hugs remain in our hearts and amongst the halls of Hearthstone. "Yes, Darling".
