I was lucky enough to live with my grandpa growing up. I called him Dadoo, and I was his JenJen. He was the kind of grandpa who let me go everywhere with him. I would go with him to order hamburgers for dinner, and he’d always buy an extra set of secret fries that we could share on the drive home. It was a fun race to finish the fries fast since home was a stop sign away!  He was the kind of grandpa who let me play in his truck bed while he mowed the grass on Saturdays, and he never complained that I was scratching it up. He was the kind of grandpa who always had a dime ready for me when we ran to the bank because he knew I liked the spearmint gum in their gumball machine. He was the kind of grandpa who would get home from work only to see I’d made a huge mess out of the hallway because I was teaching “school” to my stuffed animals. He never minded. He was careful to not step on any of my babies as he made his way to his room, and he even said hi to a few of them by name. He was the kind of grandpa who would polish his shoes for work and let me help. He was the kind of grandpa who would show off his turkey caller to me when he was packing for his hunting trips. He was the kind of grandpa who saved the comics out of the Sunday paper for me. I sat beside him and read the comics while he read the news and had his coffee. He was the kind of grandpa who cut the bottoms off the biscuits for me because he’d burn them every time! He was the kind of grandpa who cheered me on at my dance performances and left me notes about how he was sorry my feet ached when I got home from summer dance camp. When I started driving, he was the kind of grandpa who would give me directions based off Randall’s store numbers. He’d tell me that such and such was just past Randall’s #39… When I went to college, he was the kind of grandpa who bought me a brand new car for my birthday, and he gave it to me with a bow on top. He was the kind of grandpa who remembered my favorite cookies were Milanos and made sure to have a package for me every time I saw him. He was the kind of grandpa who walked me down the aisle at my wedding. And, after I was married, he would come visit us with two packages in his hands: a bag of Milanos for me, and a bag of Blow Pops since that is Brice’s favorite treat. Later, when Ellie was born, he was the kind of great-grandpa who would call to check up on Ellie as well as Calvin, our dog. He was not just a grandpa to me; he was very much a father to me. He was my Dadoo, and it was an honor to be his JenJen.

Today I buried my dad and that was hard. However, tomorrow is a new day and all I can think about is how much I want to be a better person because of him. He was a great man an I am proud he was my dad! Daddy, I carry you in my heart always!

Oh Uncle David, I still can't believe you're gone.  My head knows you are in a much better place but my heart aches. I will always remember your kindness towards me, your love for your dogs and your willingness to always help someone.  

Betty Ann, there was a time you may remember when we played at the end of the road and got into the hot tar and had it all over our feet and your dad just took us to the backyard and cleaned it off without getting mad at us.  I remember he just kept wiping our feet until it was all off.  Boy, our moms wouldn't have been so nice! :)  I also remember a time when we were riding with Uncle David and he would say, "I'm not going to stop at this light, it better turn green soon" while driving ever so slowly so he wouldn't have to stop!  Most of the time he wouldn't have to either!  Those were the good 'ol days!  I love you Uncle David.  May you rest in peace.  Christy

I was saddened to read of Mr. Stringers passing. Although I didn't know him, all of his family and friends are in my prayers. It is obvious that he was loved by many.

To the family of David Stringer:

I was so saddened to hear of David's passing.  He and I attended Aldine High School, and worked at the Super Valu store on Mangum Road.  We were real close during our high school days, but as the years passed, and I was transferred to other states, we lost touch, but the fond memories of our many good times together will always be with me.

He was a great friend, and will be missed.

Today we lay you to rest. Although your memory will never rest for any of us. You were so important to my Children and myself, we were so blessed to have you in our life. God holds you in his arms, I hold you in my heart.

Susan and Anne, Uncle David shared so much with my family, he was there for me throughout my life when I had hard times. His joy and laughter was as genuine as it could be.  He lived life to the fullest. Feel free to lean on me if you need.

Uncle David,
You were my Great Uncle, and what a great Uncle you were.  I will never forget going to see you and Aunt Geraline on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Those Holiday's will always bring you and her to my mind.  You were and still are a very significant role model for me and I will never forget what you have done for this family.
