Wally was born on February 2, 1925 to Jack and Allye Andrews in Durham, NC. He grew up in Chapel Hill, NC and graduated from UNC in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 and led a dance band where he met his loving wife of 58 years, Bobbie. They were married on May 15th, 1946. They raised two sons, Rob & Jeff.
Wally retired as Vice President of Operations after 38 years with a business forms management company. He loved The Lord, his church, bible study and golf buddies at First Baptist Church and was fanatical about anything relating to Chapel Hill or the University of North Carolina. His passion for golf remained with him throughout his life and he continued to golf into his early 90’s. Wally was also renowned for being a “junk-food-junkie"! His love of grilled cheese sandwiches, french fries, chocolate shakes (really anything chocolate!), and Milky Ways gave everyone a chuckle.
Wally was noted by all for his kind and compassionate spirit. He was loving and attentive and gave generously of his time, staying in touch with family and distant relatives and always making you feel like you were the most important person on earth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, adoring wife Bobbie, youngest son Jeff, brother Bob, sisters-in-law Jane, Ruth, and Fran. Wally is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Liz Andrews, Jeff’s widow Shelly Andrews, grandchildren, Billy, Courtnie, Staci, Demi, and Dillon along with two great-grandsons and sister-in-law Madena Lowe.
Following a private burial at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, a celebration of life service will be held at Houston’s First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 14th at 11am followed by a catered luncheon of Wally’s favorite junk food.
