He was born on May 27, 1945, in Jackson, Mississippi to Melvin Walton Goode and Ruth Taylor Stinger.
Walton proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army as a Communications Specialist in Panama. During his time there, his appreciation for learning other cultures and seeing the world was ignited.
After his service, Walton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology from the University of Houston in 1973, where he developed a lifelong passion for science and innovation. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career as a chemist, contributing significantly to advancements in the oil and gas sector. His colleagues affectionately referred to him as Uncle Walt, which was a testament to how he was viewed by all those who knew him.
Spending time with family was most important to him. It was the simple family gatherings, the Sunday drives, family vacations, and daily trips to Sonic that he truly treasured. He was never too busy to provide a helping hand to ANYONE who needed him.
If he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, he was tinkering with a car (or 2 or 3)! He loved CARS! Whether he was attending an auction, restoring a CLASSIC, or enjoying the drive while Cruisin’ the Coast, his heart was happy and full of joy. He not only enjoyed rebuilding cars but also Antique Aladdin Oil Lamps, which he proudly gave as gifts to family. He could FIX anything and if he didn’t know how he would figure it out! Walton’s love for history and trivia always made gatherings more entertaining. Jeopardy and The Chase were his Daily Double, where he enjoyed testing his knowledge. This all started with his love for reading.
Fondly known by his grandchildren as Papaw, he leaves a legacy of selfless service and humility. Walton was loving and generous to everyone he knew.
Walton is survived by his loving wife, Beth Goode, his children, Jason (Leah) Goode , Kim (John) Dickinson , Debbie (Trey) Rhodes and Bradley Goode, grandchildren, Hailey Dickinson, John Dickinson, Kasey Rhodes, Raleigh Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes and Dylan Goode. His 6 grandchildren were his pride and joy. Walton was also survived by his sister Rosann Tate and sister-in-law Marleen Meads.
Walton was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Audrey Mather.
