It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness to announce the passing of Wanda Lee Kirby Nunley on January 27, 2026. Our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and fierce prayer warrior has gone to be with our Lord and Savior.
Wanda was born on Christmas Day, 1938, at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. She went on to live most of her wonderful life in Houston.
She was married to the love of her life, Rev Darrell L. Nunley, for 63 years until his passing in 2016. They had many adventures together starting with Darrell being drafted into the Army. They were stationed in France for the first two years of their marriage. Afterwards, Wanda worked in the dental field for 20+ years. She was talented at the piano, accordion, and sang beautifully. Darrell and Wanda traveled to many churches and festivals sharing their music for praise and worship. Throughout the years, they hosted several bible studies in their home. Eventually, they were led to their true calling of Church Ministry and both obtained their pastoral licenses from the Assemblies of God Church. They planted and grew a church in The Houston Heights. They were a living testimony of love and demonstrated true servant’s hearts for the Lord.
Wanda walked humbly, loved generously, and found strength in prayer through every season of her life. Prayer, for Wanda was not just something she did; it was who she was. She prayed for anyone, anywhere, and trusted fully in the power of prayer and God’s faithfulness. She boldly shared her faith with others and devoted hours each day to reading and studying God’s word. Today, we can say with confidence, that she has heard what scripture tells us, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”. Her race is finished, her work complete, and now she sits at the feet of Jesus.
Wanda is mom to Damon Lynn Nunley (1957-2022), married to Melissa; Donda Nunley Dye, husband Chris; and LaSchel Nunley McCoy, husband Tim. She would very enthusiastically tell everyone about her 10 grandchildren and their spouses and her 21 great grandchildren with two more on the way! She also leaves behind a host of cherished family and friends.
In keeping with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held for the family, honoring her life and faith. We are deeply grateful for your love, support and prayers during this time.
In lieu of flowers, please support your local church with your attendance, prayers, and donations.
