Warner was born on January 14, 1939, in Victoria, Texas, to Calvin Magness and Lillie Mae “Mickie” Magness. He graduated from Miami Jackson High School in Florida in 1957 and later met the love of his life, Mary Gholston, in Houston, Texas. They married on September 1, 1977, and recently celebrated 48 beautiful years of marriage marked by Warner singing “Happy Anniversary” to Mary one last time on their special day.
Warner dedicated over 20 years of service to the City of Houston’s Public Works, Fleet Maintenance Department. He was a man of deep faith and active in his church communities. He taught Sunday School at Fellowship Baptist and later joined Mims Baptist Church, where he was a beloved member of the choir for many years.
An outdoorsman at heart, Warner had a passion for hunting, fishing, and staying active. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life adventuring through the woods, roller skating, and bike riding, especially with his granddaughter Taylor, with whom he shared a special bond. His love for family was unmatched, and his presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering.
Warner was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is preceded in death by his father Luther Calvin Magness, his mother Lillie Mae “Mickie” Magness, and his son, Scott Christopher Magness.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Magness; sisters, Janet Baker, and Donna Townsend, children Wayne Warner Magness, Victoria Lee Culberth and Robert Paul Gibbons; grandchildren Taylor Culberth, Dawson Culberth, Mikel Magness, Abigail Magness, Nicholas Magness, Ella Magness, and Amelia Magness; and his Aunt Odessa.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mims Baptist Church and the many family and friends who have offered their love and support during this time.
Warner’s legacy of faith, family, and joy in life will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
