

William David Hartwig, 84, passed away in Katy, Texas on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. A native Houstonian, he was born February 15, 1929 to Edwin Albert Hartwig and Helen Bodemann Hartwig. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Victor Hartwig; and sister, Merlyn Hart.
A graduate of Lamar High School and Rice University (Class of ’51), he was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
Bill spent his entire professional career as a CPA and thoroughly enjoyed his partnership with his long-time friend, Carl Schulse. Over many years, together they built an accounting firm, Schulse, Hartwig & Company, into a highly successful entity in the Houston area.
His hobbies included hunting, supporting Houston sports teams and traveling with his wife and friends. However, his favorite past time was golf and his passion for the game led to his contributions as an owner and partner of Bear Creek Golf World and Cypresswood Golf Club.
Bill’s strong religious background followed him throughout his entire life and his involvement in his church was extensive.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Leah Hartwig; children, Mike Hartwig and wife Liz, Carol Neal and husband Scott and Steven Hartwig and wife Jeanie. His grandchildren, who affectionately named him “Pops”, included Ryan Hartwig, Hunter Hartwig and wife Melissa, Brett Neal, Colton Neal, William Hartwig and Katie Hartwig. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Chamberlain and numerous other loving family members and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, August, 5, 2013, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Memorial Drive Lutheran Church, 12211 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024, at 10:00 am.
