

Bill graduated from Kansas State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and the University of Oklahoma in 1955 with a Master of Petroleum Engineering degree. Bill spent six years in the United States Air Force before going to work for the Shell Oil Company in 1961. He worked for Shell until he retired in 1993.
As a Shell employee, Bill served in a variety of assignments in Midland, Texas, Houston, New Orleans, New York and The Hague. At the time of his retirement, Bill was Shell's chief economist.
Bill was a long time member of the Friends of the Smithsonian and traveled all over the world on Smithsonian and other tours. He was a patron of the arts and generously supported the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bill also loved classical music and regularly attended symphony orchestra concerts in Houston and New York.
Bill was a member of St John the Divine Episcopal Church for many years and supported the many ministries of the church. Bill's generosity also included the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.
A memorial service is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 25th of October, in the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector, is to officiate.
At a later date, the family is to gather for an interment service at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado, Kansas
