

Nick was a Private lst Class in the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. He was discharged from the Army on December 22, 1954.
Nick went to Barber School and got his license on July 13, 1956. He spent the next 55 years doing what he loved.
He played the guitar, accordion and piano. He did all of these in his barbershop in Humble, Texas. He also was a barber in Mesa, Arizona for a few years.
He returned to Houston to work and live close to his daughter and grandchildren. He retired in 2010 because of failing health.
Nick loved fishing. He would go fishing in Lake Houston with his friends and family as often as possible. He also loved dogs. He had a pug named Butch that was his constant companion for years.
Nick loved Jesus with all his heart. Whenever anyone visited him, he would always preach to them a little bit. He did that up until two weeks before his death.
He is preceded death by his parents, Arvil Nichols and Edna Grimes Nichols; siblings: James Nichols, Johnny Nichols, Charlie Nichols, Edward Nichols, Louise Nichols Ellington, Harold Nichols, Margret Nichols Brown and Pete Nichols.
He is survived by his daughter, Geneva Herring and husband Frank of Highlands, Texas; two sisters: Beatrice Nichols Usher of Missouri, Evlien Nichols Swift of Arkansas; grandchildren: Jeremy Broyles, of Humble, Texas, Ben Broyles and wife Sherrie of Schertz, Texas; great-grandchildren: Jeremy Broyles, Jr., Aidan Broyles, Ben Broyles II, Emalee Broyles and Loralee Broyles.
If Nick were here, he would tell you all, “Accept Jesus now because we aren’t promised tomorrow. The destination will be worth the journey.”
