William Lawrence Whitehead ( Bill) was born in 1923 in De Soto Missouri, the youngest of three brothers. Upon his mother’s death in 1935, Bill moved to Kimmswick Missouri to live with family members. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was in combat in the Soloman Islands. Upon his release from the service, he returned to the University of Missouri where he received a degree in advertising. In August, 1945, he married Eva Foster of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Bill and Eve lived with other Whitehead family members in Kimmswick, and later moved to Kirkwood MO where they raised two children, William L. Whitehead, Jr. and Mary Lynn Whitehead.
In 1956 Bill took a position with J. A. Walsh & Co. and moved the family to the Westbury neighborhood in Houston Texas. He was manager of the Record Department with Walsh, a wholesale distributor for RCA Records, and later worked for Art Jones & Co. in the same management position. Bill met and befriended many RCA recording artists during his working career. He retired in the early 1980’s. Bill enjoyed tennis, golf and vacationing with his family. He had a great sense of humor, and all the people he met just adored him. Bill and Eve moved to north Houston in 1973 where he lived until his passing in 2013, in the Woodlands TX.
Bill was widowed in 2002 with the passing of Eve. He is survived by his two children, William L. Whitehead, Jr. (Larry) of Oakland CA,, and Mary Lynn Whitehead (Lyndi) of Temple TX, and several cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Bill was a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan growing up and into his mid adult years. It is ironic that Bill’s biggest baseball hero, Stan “the man” Musial pass away on the same day, and about the same time, as Bill on January 19th!! The two of them are together in heaven talking baseball .
A memorial service will be held in Bill's honor at 2 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2013 in the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home Champions.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to: Odyssey Hospice of Conroe TX; 100 I-45 North; suite 300; Box 103; Conroe, TX 77301.
