Willie James Hughes, Jr.

Willie James Hughes Jr. “Bubba” was born on September 24, 1949, in Houston, Texas to proud parents Willie and Melvin Hughes. Willie attended Dogan Elementary, EO Smith and Kashmere High School. Willie love for God began at a young age where he served as an active Deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years. He was employed at Harvey Construction Company where he served as a supervisor for 35 years until retirement.

Willie “Bubba” Hughes was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. Bubba enjoyed most in life, was Zydeco and being with his family. He looked forward to gatherings with them on any and every occasion.

On June 4th, 2025 “Bubba” was called to Heaven’s Gate. He was preceded in death by; his loving parents: father, Willie James Hughes and mother, Melvin Hughes; sister, Joyce Faye Hughes; brother, Jerry Hughes; wives, Mary Lou Hughes “Tussy”, JoAnn Hughes and Jackie Hughes; and grandson, Brandon Brown.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories; sons, Willie Hughes II., Alton Brown, Harold Brown, Rodney Hughes and Willie “Will” Hughes III; grandchildren, Bre’Yana Brown, Alex Brown, Rodney Hughes Jr., Willie Hughes and Moniee Brown; sisters, Alice Hardy and Velma Henry; special friend, “Sandy”; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bubba’s unwavering faith and dedication to his family and ministry touched countless lives. His memory will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
