A caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Willie Mae was born to Willie Warren Nolan and Bettie Hewitt-Nolan on December 18th, 1943, in Mansfield, LA.
At the age of 9, she moved to Detroit, MI until she graduated from high school in 1961. After graduating from high school, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. Willie Mae attended a nursing school in 1962 and graduated with honors.
In 1963, shortly after becoming a nurse, she met and fell in love with her husband, Russell Moore. The beautiful couple were married in Shelby County, Texas on October 17th, 1964. They had five children together, including Michael (married to his wife, Shellie), Pamela (married to her husband, Tay), Kimberly (married to her husband, Cedrick), Andrea, and Cynthia. They were also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Willie Mae went on to become a distinguished nurse for the Harris County Hospital District and retired in 1996 after 28 years. With a strong love for literature and exploring recipes, she dreamed of traveling the world and moved on from this temporary existence after a valiant battle with cancer on February 11th, 2022.
Before she passed, she left us with these words from Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me
I want no rights in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not to long, and not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared, miss me, but let me go
For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone
It's all a part of the Mater's plan, and a step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me, but let me go.
