Winston Hun Kim, 78, devoted husband and loving father passed away on August 13, 2018 in Houston, TX surrounded by his family. He was born on November 10, 1939, in Seoul, South Korea. He attended grade school in South Korea and graduated with both the equivalent of a bachelor and master’s degree from Seoul National University. Winston chose the teaching profession and taught high school for several years after university and married the love of his life, Viola. They then moved to the United States to start a new and more prosperous life. After moving to the state of Georgia, Winston began his career in the United States by starting as an entry level plumbing laborer. Once learning this trade, he persevered and ultimately started a commercial plumbing business after moving to the state of Texas. He ran this successful business for 30 years until retiring in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Yung Kim of Fulshear, TX, son, Gregory Chul Kim, Daughter-in-law, Amanda of Houston, TX, two grandchildren Meredith (9) and Maeleigh Kim (6). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Jiyeon Kim. Winston was a devoted family man, philosopher and avid author of many ‘philosophy of life’ columns for numerous online Korean news agencies. He enjoyed reading thousands of books, traveling, and had a deep appreciation for building things around the home. Private services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or a charity of your choice.
